Apparently the teased “Pirates of the Carribbean” expansion to Little Big Planet is very real and coming to your Playstation 3 just before Christmas.

The news broke over at CVG and along with the official word from Sony on Pirates it seems that the long awaited water expansion will now be releasing alongside the scurvy dogs of the treacherous seas.  Makes sense I guess.  You can’t do much with Pirates without water now can you?

Media Molecule confirmed all the rumors and speculation today when they officially announced the “Pirates of the Caribbean Premium Level Kit,” which will include:

  • New Gameplay features for Create: Water – Global Water Object, Scuba Gear, Bubble Machine, Water Switch

  • 5 Brand new Pirates of the Caribbean themed Levels

  • 1 New costume: The Cannibal: Leg Bands, Teeth, Nose Decoration, Hair, Loincloth, Skin

  • 4 new music tracks

  • A new level background

  • 8 Materials

  • 14 Decorations

  • 27 Objects

  • 133 Stickers

  • 11 brand new PlayStation® Trophies

A costume pack will be available as well, allowing you to play as six of the main characters from Pirates of the Carribean (Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, Barbossa, Davy Jones, Will Turner, and Ta Dalma.)  The costume pack includes the following items:

  • Sack Sparrow: Boots, Moustache, Sword, Hair, Shirt, Skin

  • Elizabeth Swann: Boots, Hat, Hair, Coat

  • Barbossa: Boots, Moustache, Hands, Hat, Hair, Trousers, Coat

  • Davy Jones: Hands, Head, Coat, Trousers

  • Will Turner: Boots, Moustache, Hair, Trousers, Coat

  • Tia Dalma: Hair, Outfit, Dress, Skin

The two packs will be available on the Playstation Network starting December 22nd priced individually at $5.99.  You’ll still be able to play community created levels containing the newly introduced water, but if you want to make your own you’ll have to buy the pack.

This introduction of water should open up a ton of new possibilities for creative gamers in the LittleBigPlanet community, who up until now have had to rely on complicated work-arounds to get a water effect in their levels.  We’re excited to see what the community is able to do with these new elements, so show us all your best water-related levels.
